Without A Netbook I Am Nothing!

Do you know how much my Netbook has changed my learning?

Well last year I had to write in a book with a pencil and there was no point, because nobody could see it. Now that I have a Netbook I am able to write faster and my writing is much neater, but most importantly, I have an audience that can see my writing on my blog.

This year I can teach myself by going on the Internet, and looking at my group’s site. Then I go to my teacher and ask for a book that I need then read it. When I am finished reading I can go back onto my group’s site and open the Document that my teacher has put online.

There are a few things that can be improved on the Netbook. Sometimes my Internet connection plays up so I have to go onto G-edit, this is not cool. The last thing that could be improved is Tux Paint. This Program is making my drawing look babyish, but apart from that everything is great.

This year learning has been much easier for me, because I am able to teach myself.

2011 Senior Prize giving!

Last Night the seniors of Pt England had their Prize giving for 2011. When it started I couldn't wait for Mr Burt to announce the Year 6's who were getting the certificates for 100% Attendance this year, because I knew I was one of them. When we had to perform I was shy but I did it anyway because I knew my mum was in the crowd watching me.

Bivouac Making

Do you know what a Bivouac is? Well at came one of our activities were bivouac making, a bivouac is a little Hut made out of wood and twigs. The first thing we had to do was find a good spot to make one then build it, my team chose a spot close to the Abseiling so we could see what it was like.

My team had a strategy, it was that two people build and one person gets all of the supplies. The builders in my group was Darius and I and the Supplier was Patrick. As soon as we had finished we were relieved because we couldn't wait to kick back.

Our bivouac was a success but we didn’t test to see if it was water proof. When we were walking around we saw some other groups that had failed so we think our one would of too. Even though making bivouacs was hard work I still managed to help my team.

Bombing Off The Pontoon Was Really Fun!

The first touch of water made me afraid of going to the Pontoon. I knew it was going to be freezing. I had no choice but to get in the water and get use to it. I was really desperate to get to that pontoon.

A couple more strokes and I knew I will get to the pontoon. As soon as I was there I climbed up the ladder and had a little rest before I took my first jump. The first jump I took was cool because I haven’t jumped off something like that in ages, I hit the water like a huge bomb.

“ Yay we are finally out of the water I said to the people around me”. Getting out of the water made me cold because the wind was blowing on me. When I got out of the water it was still cold even though I had my towel on, I couldn’t wait to get into some warm clothes.

Kayaking At Camp Bentzon

As soon as Erin told Mansion B that we were going for a 2km kayaking trip, I knew that it wasn’t going to be good for me. The first place we kayaked to was the pontoon, and when we arrived there we had to raft up. We practiced this because on some big ships people will not be able to see you in a little Kayak.

When we had nearly completed our trip we played a game called SWITCH THE KAYAKS. All Erin had to do was choose two people and those two people had to switch kayaks the first one to get into the other kayak wins. When Erin chose me I knew I was going to capsize but I still gave it my best shot.

After we played SWITCH THE KAYAKS we headed back to shore. But on the way there, I capsized out of my Kayak and I was very exhausted. Poor Erin had to tow me back to shore. Thankfully we arrived at shore.

Tennis

"Yay Tennis" I said to myself. Last week Room 17 just had their first Tennis lesson with a guy called Marcel, when I heard this was going to start I was exited. As soon as our lesson started I was ready to learn about Tennis.

The first thing we learned how to do was hold the racket properly, because you will have to know this before you play Tennis. When you hold the racket you have to make your hand into a V shape then put it on. I was struggling to hit the ball because I think I wasn't holding the racket properly. This was a weakness for me.

Straight after the Gripping stage we learned how to do the Forehand hit. Learning this hit was cool for me because, I would like how to know all of the strikes for Tennis. during the forehand part we were trying to keep the ball off the ground with the racket, to see who could get the highest score. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.

At the end of the session we played a game called King Ball. King Ball is just Tennis. Room 17 got split up into teams of 6, and played until Marcel blew his whistle. At the end of the game there could only be one winner and the winner for our group was Onosai. In the Middle of the Game I was on a winning streak until I lost to Darius, I was guttered.

At the end of the day I had enjoyed myself because it was fun to learn about Tennis. I wounder what we are doing on our next lesson, all I know is that it is going to be awesome.

Ice Cream Comets

Do you know what Comets are? Room 17 and 16 have been learning about Comets and what they consist of, we made some for us to eat. If you don't know what Comets are I am going to tell you a bit about them.

Comets really consist of ice, rocks and it is also very dirty and dusty. If they get too close to the Sun a bit of rock will fall off it, this could cause a Meteorite. These Comets also have tails at the back or front of them that show the direction to the Sun.

Room 17 have made some Comets that you can eat. First we got a scoop of Ice cream and took it outside to get coated, with crushed Biscuits, Chocolate sprinkles and hundreds and thousands. The last thing we had to do was to put it on a cone and eat it. Finally the moment came and it was time to eat these delicious looking Comets. "Yum" I couldn't wait to demolish the whole thing.

At the end of all this chaos, there was a huge mess on the ground from the Coating. There was mess everywhere. It was on the ground, on peoples faces it was even on my hands and T-shirt. Even though there was lots of mess around, I still think this was a good experience for all of us.

When all the Comets were finish and all the mess was packed up, it was time to get ready to go home. I would recommend this for a family desert and hope my family and I make these one time.

The Aussies Are Out Of The Cup!

Last night the Mighty All Blacks defeated the Aussies and knocked them out of this years Rugby World Cup competition. The AB’s will be going head to head against France in the Grand final this Sunday. Hopefully they can take it out this year. The last time the All Blacks won the Cup was in 1987, which was 24 years ago.

As soon as the game started I couldn’t wait to see who will score the first try. I was hoping that it was going to be the All Blacks and sure enough it was. This try was scored in the first ten minutes By Ma’a Nonu but set up by Israel Dagg.

Piri Weepu didn’t have as much success with his goal kicking compared to last weeks game against Argentina. He had a chance to get in eight kicks but unfortunately he only got in four. Even though he didn’t get in most of his kicks I think he still performed well in last nights game.

The right side Winger for the All Blacks is Cory Jane. This guy is awesome under the high balls. Last night Cory Jane was named Man of the match because every time the Aussies kicked the ball up in the air he was always under it.

Even though I go for the All Blacks I felt sorry for the Aussies because I could see the disappointment in their faces.

New Zealand Decimate Canada

\Rugby world Cup 2011 be there. Last week on Sunday the All Blacks Played Canada in a Rugby game, This will depend on who is going to make it to the quarter finals. I knew that the All Blacks were going to win.

The third Try that Zac Guildford got was amazing. It was set up by Sonny Bill Williams and Mils. First Sonny Bill kicked the ball to Mils so he could suck in some players then offload it to Zac Guildford. All he had to do was run to the try line and score.

As soon as Canada score their first try, the Canadian crowd was so happy that they made lots of ruckus. The All Blacks couldn’t believe it. The guy who scored the try had to work for it, by busting through the All Blacks defense line.

Even though Canada got a thrashing I still think they did their best because they had the strength to bust through The All Black defense. Maybe they can Make it to the quarters in 2015.

On Friday the 16th of September The All Blacks are going face to face against Japan, It is going to be in Hamilton. I predict that the All Blacks are going to win and I reckon the final score will be 35 - 0. I think that Japan is going to put up a good fight but they will still lose.

Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony

On Friday the 9th of September the Rugby World Cup began. It started with a big opening ceremony that made a lot ruckus it was spectacular, the whole point of it was to start the Rugby World Cup.

The First game to start was The All Blacks vs Tonga, it was going to be awesome. After The All Blacks scored a few tries, I wondered if Tonga was going to score, and luckily they did. The crowd went wild after that try.

As soon as the match was over I was happy that the All Blacks won, but I felt sorry for Tonga. The Final Scores were 41 - 10. It’s good that the All Blacks won, but it wasn’t what I thought the scores were going to be.

Although the city struggled with the huge crowd, every one agreed that the Opening Ceremony was a huge success.

All Blacks Decimate Tonga!

Tomorrow the Rugby World Cups kicks off and it is going to be exciting. It will start with the All Blacks doing the Haka, then Tonga doing their chant, there will be a lot of ruckus. I think the All Blacks are going to win because they are the best team in the world even though the last time they won was in 1987 . I think the final scores will be 40 to 22.

Badminton

Badminton is a really physical sport because you have to rally for points, you also have to know how to hold the racket properly. It looks like an easy sport but boy its a lot of hard work. Now I'm going to tell you how it was for me.

During Room 17’s Badminton lessons, I struggled to hold the racket and to hit the Shuttle even though I was determined to persevere. Hitting the shuttle was a weakness for me because I couldn’t seem to hit it at the right time. The last thing I struggled on was serving because every time I served the shuttle wouldn’t go far enough or it wouldn’t make it over the net.

There are lots of different was to hit the shuttle, but I reckon the forehand strike is the easiest. If you use the forehand strike you have to have your thumb on the side where to the logo is. Another easy hit to do is the backhand strike because it is sort of like the forehand but your hand is on the opposite side.

By playing this sport you can get very tied and frustrated. The longer it takes for someone to win the faster you will get tied. By the end of my match I was sweating hard out because of all the running and hitting I had to do.

At the end of my first Badminton lesson I had lots of fun I even learnt how to serve properly but most of all I enjoy it.

Keep Your Eye On The Ball!

I believe that the RWC tournament will benefit New Zealand because all the money will help to re-build Christchurch. It will also help with the community. Even though people will buy drinks and get drunk it will sort of be good because they are giving their money to businesses. I hope that New Zealand wins because the last time they won was in 1987. Keep your eye on the ball NZ!

Extreme Makeover Courtyard Edition!

The words that are blue are some good vocab that our teacher has told the class to use in our persuasive writing. This rubric is the marks that I got for Para 3. It was marked by my classmate Vivienne.

We have a massive problem and we need your help. Our courtyard is in very bad condition so we need a makeover. There are many reasons for this. It is hardly used, in winter the fields are always closed and we need more courtyard space now that we have four more classes in our school. In the Breeze everyone is getting squashed, so we think the courtyard will solve the problem.

Room 17’s courtyard is a very bad waste of space, because it is ugly and dirty. We think if we give it a makeover this will stop little kids from getting hurt and it will also entice kids into our courtyard. Our class know that kids don’t like our courtyard because we surveyed room 16 and 18 kids.

During Winter kids do not have access to the fields. At lunchtime the breeze is always in a crowded condition, this causes problems. Instead of going to the fields, they could come to our new, improved courtyard and play.

Now that we have four more classes in our school, our playing areas are becoming very over crowded. Luckily they have their own place to hang out so most of the year 7 & 8 kids stay there, but some still come in the breeze. If we give our courtyard a makeover the intermediate block could come and hang out in it.

Room 17’s courtyard is an ugly place to play so we want to fix it up to make it a better place, don’t you think we should?

I am making movies 2 !

Last week on Sunday some kids represented our school by entering the I am making movies 2, and they went down to the Museum for the Awards. I went with them because my mum was a part of representing our school.

As soon as we arrived at the Museum we went straight inside because it was raining and cold. A few minutes later we were getting ready to go into the elevators but there was a huge line so we had to wait a while. Not long after we were in the big room where the awards were, we were sitting on our chairs waiting for the it to start.

Just to let you know the hosts were Charlie of What Now and Sheryl of Outrageous Fortune. Anyway as soon as our school saw their movies they were happy because they won lots of the categories. When I saw their movies I was amazed because I thought that they were awesome compared to the other school’s one’s.

In the end my mum’s class won the SUPREME award so they received a digital video camera. I am so lucky that my mum took me because me and two other kids got to take a picture with Sheryl and Charlie.

It all start when Clouds are delivering babies of all type of breeds. But there is one cloud that makes dangerous creatures like Crocodiles, Goats and Eels. In the end the stalk flew to another Cloud and asked for some armor, but the other cloud thought that he left him. After a while the stalk came back and was ready for the delivery. They lived happily ever after. I would give this movie a 10/10 because it was a cool movie to watch, and it was funny.

Extreme Makeover Courtyard Edition!

In room 17 we have been redesigning our courtyard.

(Picnic Tables)

So far I want to have Picnic Tables in our Courtyard. I have chosen to put some on the grass area, because I think it will be a cool place for some kids to eat on and hang out. We have done some research on the Internet about Picnic Tables and found out that they are to expensive to buy.

(Sun Shades)
I also want to have some Sun Shades on top of the Picnic Tables. I think it will be good for the summer time. I searched it up on the Internet and so far I can't find anything.

(Smooth Concrete)
We also want to have smooth concrete in our Courtyard. We want this so we can have nice and smooth ground instead of rough ground. So far I haven't gather any information about concrete.

My Room 17 Courtyard Makeover

Yesterday Room 17 have been trying to redesign our courtyard. Our teachers said that we couldn't put any playground equipment on there.

So my friend and I went on the Internet to search up Eating Tables. We found lots of interesting tables but at the end we decided to chose a wooden one. We decided to replace the grass with concrete and put the chairs on top with a Sun Shade on the top.

Ambassadors Star In The Courier

Have you looked at the East & Bays Courier for last week Friday? Well if you did you would have seen me on the front page, sitting on a stage with three kids behind me speaking.
This article is about how me and seven others from my school were guest speakers at a conference in Wellington

My aunty rang my dad and told him that I was on the front page of the newspaper. As soon as my family heard that news from my aunty, they were so proud of me that they couldn’t wait to get their paper. Every 10 minutes my dad kept on going outside to see if the paper had arrived.

Suddenly he came back inside with one piece of paper in his hands and it was the front page of the newspaper. He started telling my mum that he found it on the ground soaked in water so when he had brought it in I hung it up to dry it. The quality wasn’t good so we all took a drive down to the Panmure Library and my dad sent my brother in to get a couple of copies of the paper.

20 Hour Famine

On
the 27th of May Pt England had a 20 Hour Famine, it was for the people in East Timor. The whole point of doing this was to fund raise money for the people in East Timor. It was also to help them so they can have clean food and water to drink and eat.
So far I have fun raised $74 so that means I have helped the people in East Timor. Anyway While we were doing the Famine we could only eat Barley sugars and drink Just Juice. We started at 12am the day before and ended at 8am, so it was a very good experience for me and my friends.

The next day it was my Birthday so everyone who did the Famine sang Happy Birthday to me and I felt special. So when I went home I went to get some breakfast. GO THE YELLOW TEAM!

Te Papa Museum

As soon as we arrived at the Te Papa Museum I couldn’t wait to go and explore the place. First we went on the Motion Masters and we also went to this place were we can take pictures. And just before we were going to Present we experienced what it will be like in a house at the time of and Earthquake.

On The Plane To Wellington

As soon as I jumped on the plane I knew I wouldn't be sitting with my friends because we had different seat numbers. Anyway as we were settling on the plane the waiters were handing out Pretzels and Jet plane lollies. They were also handing out Coffee and water.

On the plane there were little screens hanging off the ceiling and on them were quiz questions. My mates and I answered some of them and we were right then after a while we started to get bored. As we were in the air I started to get really sore ears.

Redesigning Our Netbook Cases

Today Room17 had to do a Task it was to redesign our Netbook cases. So I have replaced my small name tag and made it bigger. I have also added a T.V screen on the front so I can watch T.V when I want to.

I put the T.V on the front because when I am bored I can watch it. The reason why I made my name tag bigger is because it will stand out more and people will know its mine.

Technology Challenge Part 2

First we will role up three newspapers to make three tubes. Then we will cut one in half and use it for a small tube. After that we will stick one tube to the table and stick the small one to the bottom of the big one. We will also make the last tube stick to the bottom to make two right angles.

As soon as we started to make our marble track it was looking like a dump, because we had just cut lots of paper and tried to stick it together. When our time was coming to an end we were trying to do some finishing touches because our marble track was a failure.

Swimming Lessons Begin!!

“Oh no Swimming again”. Swimming lessons, are not my favourite sport, but I gave it a go anyway. As we got closer and closer to the pools I was trying to decide what pool to go in the Middle one, or the big one, Miss Garden said we had to choose depending on how confident we felt. I wasn’t really confident but she picked me to go in the big pool anyway.

As soon as I hoped into the big pool I shivered like I was in an ice bath. When I saw my mates jump in the pool, I assumed they will be cold too, but they were fine, they acted like nothing happened at all. I sank down to my shoulders, trying to get used to the water.

“Ok Kingston you need to practice your breathing and keep your legs straight”, I tried following instructions. “Ok off you go”. As I swam to the end of the pool it got more difficult for me because it felt like I was going to sink to the bottom.

"Yay free time boys” I said. As soon as we heard free time we started to get crazy like animals. My friends and I straight away played wrestling. I went under water to pick my friend Darius up then suddenly Aaaa! came out of mouth. I was struggling to do it but I soon became complete.

Technology Challenge

As soon as I heard that we were going to do a Technology challenge I got filled with excitement. Seconds later I had gathered my group and got ready.

Our challenge was to make a marble travel from a table to the ground and it had to turn one corner. We had to make it out of 6 pieces of new paper and some cello tape. The time we had to do it in was 10 minutes.

My group was really different to the other groups because we were try to make it go on an angle then make it do a left turn. We had nearly completed the challenge but it couldn’t stand up so we had to keep working on it.

At the end I thought that we had done a good job because we were nearly successful and we had a good structure. I still think we could of done better because we took our time.

Wellington Here We Come

“Oh no come on Kingston get your stuff! ” I said to myself. As soon as I was up I went straight to put my uniform on and make my lunch.

On the 19th of May the Pt England Ambassadors went to Wellington and I am one of them. As soon as I got to school I went straight to the office to get my jacket and netbook. As all the ambassadors arrived to school, Mr and Mrs Burt made sure we were all at school and ready to go.

Stopping at the airport made my friends and I happy because we were all really desperate to go on the plane. As soon as the plane departed from the airport my ears started to hurt badly, but as much as I wanted to cry I just put up with it. Anyway on the plane my friends and I logged onto our netbooks and played a game called Burger Space.

“OK troops off the plane now” Mr Burt instructed to us. Soon we were trying to find a cab to take us to the Te Papa Museum, then suddenly we found one. After we had finished exploring the Museum we got ready to go and present our presentation. Before that we had a practice.

Minutes later everybody was in the hall waiting for us to present. I was a bit nervous because there were a lot of people but I still went on and did my job. After we had finished I thought that we had done a good job. We also got to go on our netbooks.

At the end of the day we had explored lots of places in Wellington and done heaps of stuff. We even had lunch at this place. To top everything off at the end of the day we went to a place called the Koru Lounge. It is a place where lots of rich people go and we went in. Everybody in there were surprised to see us in there, so we were lucky.

Suddenly the day started to end and we were just getting ready to go back to Auckland. At the end of the day I had lots of fun and had a good experience.
